                      Event Recap

April 15,2008

The first event of 2008, the 27th Annual Funny Car Fever was held in Sacramento Ca.  We were off to a great start, qualifying 6th, with a quarter mile elapsed time of 7.45 @ 188 mph.  The fans were glad to have us back out there as well as the participants and we put on a great show.  We must have taken dozens of pictures and signed hundreds of hero cards for the kids in attendance.  With the assistance of Pat Watson, a nitrous oxide system developer and world record setter tuning our power plant, we were able to establish ourselves as a strong force in the class.

In qualifying we paired up against the 2006 champion, John Campoy in his ‘02 Cougar.  When the lights dropped our car ran like a freight train and never looked back, dropping the jaws of all the teams on the starting line.  In the second round we were locked up against a brand new Dennis Sarmento built ’63 Corvette.  The Corvette had a lot of horsepower but with a good light we held him off at the stripe.  Round one of eliminations was an interesting match up for us.  We raced defending 2007 champion Jeff Gillette in his 2002 Pontiac Trans Am.  The stands were packed and emotions were high because Pat Watson was the person that taught Gillette everything he knows.  When we left the line we were out about two car lengths but our car slowed right at halftrack enabling him to get the win. After that round we found the problem and it’s getting repaired as we speak.  Gillette went on to win the event but this is just the beginning and we’ll get them at the next race.    The next event will be the Fremont Reunion held again at Sacramento Raceway on May 9-10.  Hopefully you can attend and thanks again for your support of D&M Racing Team.
